Alaska Offering Double Miles for Seattle through December

In a press release this morning, Alaska Airlines said it will be adding another double miles offer for select flights to and from Seattle between now and December 31:

Los Angeles
Oakland
San Diego
San Francisco
San Jose
Vancouver, BC

Furthermore, it will be offering a more limited double miles promotion for flights from Seattle to Juneau and Fairbanks from June 1 through September 1. Members of Club49 will be automatically enrolled in this latter promotion, but otherwise customers need to register before their flight to earn the double miles. Routes offering double miles on Alaska through the end of 2014

These bonus miles are only award miles and do not include elite qualifying miles, although it seems that Alaska is stepping up the pressure as it tries to match Delta’s very generous double miles offers in the Seattle market. Delta originally announced its offer as lasting through the year’s end, but Alaska has been using a series of more targeted and temporary offers.

Several routes are still offering double elite qualifying miles if you’re seeking to earn elite status faster. For example, many of the above routes earn double elite qualifying miles through May 31, Salt Lake City (and other destinations from Salt Lake City) have double elite qualifying miles through August 1, and the new service from Seattle to Detroit will offer double elite qualifying miles in September and October later this year.

(As for reports that there would be double elite qualifying miles on new routes to Baltimore and Albuquerque, unfortunately an error was included in the original draft of the press release. It seems Alaska is offering double miles on more and more flights for a longer period but cutting back on the breadth of its double elite qualifying miles offers.)
