US Airways joined the oneworld Alliance on Monday, and if you decide against matching your status to one of its former Star Alliance partners as I described this morning, then US Airways has an offer to to reward you for doing business with its new friends (HT to Deals We Like).
Just register with US Airways, book and travel on any oneworld members (other than US Airways), credit the flight to your Dividend Miles account, and earn bonus points for up to 6 qualifying partner flights. The promotion is good from May 31 through June 30, and I’m thinking it would probably be put to best use in a place like Asia or Europe where you can fly lots of regional carriers as part of a larger trip. I just happen to have such an adventure coming up.
American Airlines does count for this promotion, but you won’t earn any bonus points for the first partner. It’s just an easy one to get out of the way so that it will be easier to earn on all subsequent partners, like Cathay Pacific and British Airways.
This promotion could still make sense if you’re primarily and American Airlines customer. The Dividend Miles and AAdvantage programs will eventually merge in some form, so these bonus miles will probably become AAdvantage miles at some point and can already be used to book flights on American Airlines and oneworld partners (as well as a few leftover Star Alliance partners).
