Singapore Airlines #11
Tokyo Narita (NRT) – Singapore (SIN)

8:50pm – 3:10am (+1) : 7 hours, 20 minutes
Airbus A380-800: Suite 3F (Suites Class)

(This leg of the report has fewer photos of the cabin, since those are mostly covered in the LAX-NRT portion of the trip).

Even though the LAX-NRT crew was good, they weren’t great by Singapore Airlines standards.  They seem kind of frazzled by a full cabin.  I could tell this crew from Tokyo to Singapore would be better.  I boarded last amongst Suites passengers.  A crew member came into the jetway to get my roller bag and bring it to my suite.

Once there, I was offered the First class slippers (guess they got loaded in Tokyo!) as well as eyeshade, socks, and medium pajamas (which I found funny because I got a large in LAX and had only gotten larger through all the food and drink on the first flight).

Champagne and an insight into my music tastes

Champagne and an insight into my music tastes

The inflight supervisor came around and notified us of our 7h10m flight to Singapore, and offered several rounds of champagne on the ground.  Thankfully they poured the 2004 on the ground and not the 2003.  I overheard the passenger across the aisle complain to the purser about the poor timing of this flight and how he was upset they no longer had the nonstop LAX flight (even though that flight only had business class and this guy was in Suites).

This flight is a 7-hour journey that departs at 8pm and arrives Singapore close to 3am.  Talk about terrible timing. You can see why the crew wanted to serve dinner quickly.

Shortly after takeoff, satay was served.  Mmmmm, my favorite.

Afterward, some more caviar. Two caviar services on one flight number? Fantastic! And this crew even remembered the vodka that the previous ones forgot about at first.

After that, the soup and salad.  Wasn’t that big of a fan of either.

Certainly not making any friends with this salad.

Next was my Book The Cook selection of chicken noodle soup. The best part was the chilies.  Or maybe the chopsticks with the SQ bird/Silver Kris logo engraved.

Since I had only dabbled in the soup and salad, I asked to try the second main course, the braised pork.  Incredibly tender but I found myself stuffed halfway through.

But how can I say ‘no’ to such an incredible dessert?

My bed was made and I was given a water bottle at my bedside.  I conked out and woke up about 4.5 hours later, unsure of where exactly I was until I heard a Singapore Girl knocking on my suite saying that we were landing in less than half an hour. I changed out of my pajamas and watched the dark landing over the waters outside Singapore (though it’s a bit tough on the A380’s windows).

We were down at around 3:15am and exited to an empty Changi Terminal 3.  I made my way to the Ambassador Transit Hotel at Terminal 3, luckily arriving first in the throng of like-minded passengers on the same flight.  In the past, I’ve usually gone to the lounge and waited for my early morning connecting flight, but I had a full day in front of me.

Overall, I highly enjoyed the Singapore A380 Suites hard product.  They are incredibly roomy and I felt an incredible amount of privacy (almost too private).  I would definitely recommend them over the 777-300ER flights, especially since Singapore Airlines now charges the same number of miles for a saver ticket.

I was a bit disappointed at flying a flight that was fully booked in Suites on both legs, since I feel it diminished the service.  Not to say that the service wasn’t great, but it wasn’t the same as other First Class flights where I was the only passenger, or one of only 2 parties.
